Jim Mazza, a film producer himself, approaches John to write a song for a movie, viz
True Romance, starring Patricia Arquette and Christian Slater. „It didn´t have to be a ballad and it didn´t have to be Rock´n Roll. So where does that leave you?“, asks John, not really expecting an answer. „Acoustic guitar. 'In Dreams' was one of the first acoustic songs I wrote really. The demo is in fact the master. We just recorded it at Mark´s (Spiro, which whom John wrote 'In Dreams') home studio. It is also one of these songs that led me into the acoustic sort of series like 'Temple Bar' and 'When You Were Mine'. It was the first of those songs. It was also the beginning of my love affair with the acoustic guitar although I´d played a lot of acoustic songs with THE BABYS. I returned to the acoustic guitar because of that movie.“

„When you are writing for a movie you sort of get inside the people/actors and you need to acquaint yourself with the story“, John refers further on. „So you read the script and you understand where it´s coming from. I really did feel that this was a great movie and Tony Scott, the director did a great job. Tony and I went to Monument Valley and flew around in helicopters for a couple of days doing some death defying stuff for a video that never came out.“

Meanwhile it did and beside that „In Dreams“ appears two years later on John´s meanwhile legendary album
„Temple Bar“.
