1999 - SOLO AGAIN - OUTSIDE & POE/MS Brooks & Dunn attends to it. They release it on their album Tight Rope (photo below). But they remove the (to my opinion, Petra) not quite unimportant at all. „I´ve tried to innovate a little bit of myself“, says Ronnie Dunn und adds that he is no competition to John Waite at all because „Missing You“ has always been one of his all time favorites. Rather... „John Waite is one of the greatest rock singers ever.“ In the meantime the exceptionally gifted Brit guy records You Are a Part of Me with Ian McDonald. The song appears on Ian´s debut album Driver´s Eyes. Ian McDonald is one of the founders of the legendary Foreigner and plays guitar and keyboards on their first three albums. Later on he establishes his reputation with King Crimson and collaborates with well-known artists like Steve Hackett, Peter Frampton, Gary Brooker, Lou Gramm, John Wetton, and many more. You Are a Part of Me is a melancholic touched, yet charming love song. It´s almost impossible to imagine another voice for that song. With his participation at the Long Island Halloween media event POE PROJECT II the Englishman proves that he is always able to spring a surprise. The Poe Project II is a charity performance where all proceeds help fund the Saltare Foundation for the Arts, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to expanding the arts to all children. In the night of October 29, 1999 it celebrates an evening of artistry in dance, word, imagery and numerous musical performances based on the prose of Edgar Allen Poe. The festivities culminate with the largest Long Island masquerade ball. It´s a suitable segue to the Halloween season. But those that might think, John would make his debut as prince of darkness, are mistaken. Edgar Allen Poe´s poetic work City By The Sea is the object of desire and accompanied with atmospherical background music Mr. Waite will lend his extraordinary voice to the event in the form of a reading. POE PROJECT II also involves the creation of a 2 CD set consisting of dramatic readings and musical interpretations of Poes works. These contributions include John Waite, Randy Jackson, Felix Hanemann, LI DJ's including Bob Buchmann (WBAB), Malibu Sue (WLIR), Vic the Latino (WXXP), as well as various LI Artists. At about that time there are also news about Tony Brock and Wally Stocker because after the break up of the worldwide misjudged BABYS time didn´t stand still for them, too. Together with Zoomer, who´s not that known in this country, they record the album Blown.
Between 1999 and 2000 fans come in flocks to see John Waite live. During his meanwhile
25 years lasting career there were many unforgotten songs that still make him a
center of attraction so he succeeds to enthuse his fans without a current record.
„It helped me to relearn my craft“, John sums the experience of the past years. „To
concentrate on the music only. It's almost like being 17 again. And you remember why you are here. |
