2001 - SOLO AGAIN -
...LIVE & RARE TRACKS...

Live & Rare Tracks 11.sept.2001

… is released by One Way. This CD contains 5 previously unreleased songs, presumably from the „Rover´s Return“ era. The remaining 7 live tracks are from 1984 /´85. To put it mildly, John isn´t very pleased with the release of this album. „I couldn´t even remember half the tracks of the rare part of it. I was disgusted about it. I mean, this One Way thing has been really bad for me. Obviously they don´t care about the music, they didn´t ask me. They bought the masters or licensed the masters from EMI and they repackage it, remaster it, and they actually put together an album that I never wanted to bring out because it´s just substandard. One Way can kiss my ass.“

The less profile of these five songs is it that makes John heavily sick. „It is embarrassing for me“, he says. „I´ve always fought for the best stuff, I mean, THE BABYS and BAD ENGLISH and all my solo albums. It's just incredible that someone you´ve never met before takes your work and releases it and it´s sounding inferior. I'm just beyond disgusted and I recommend strongly that you don't get this crap.“

Four of the five „rare tracks“ indeed sound somewhat unready. Solely „Drove All Night“ withstands the criticism. It is the best cover version of this classical tune so far, closely followed by Cindy Lauper´s cut. (But that´s just my opinion, Petra.) The release date of „Live & Rare Tracks“ is September 11, 2001…
