2003 - SOLO AGAIN - ON THE ROAD AGAIN

2003 is going to be a restless year for John Waite and he hardly finds time to breath. In addition to several projects with several well-known artists he embarks on a tour through the United States with Styx and Kansas.
The summer from July to September is reserved for Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. In 1989 already, the ex-Beatle started the concept of the All Starr Band and he reaps excellent reviews since.

It´s going to be a very special highlight. Whereas John plays the bass guitar and performs a couple of his solo tracks, the remaining All Starr Band includes following experts: Colin Hay (Men at Work, vocals and guitar), Sheila E (vocals and drums), Mark Riviera (saxophone) und Paul Carrack (Squeeze, Mike & the Mechanics, Ace, vocals and keyboards). And, of ocurse, Ringo Starr, whose reputation hardly needs a mention.

„That was a thrilling thing“, John says. „As far as I remember, the last time that I had a bass guitar hanging round my neck was with THE BABYS... It was a great thing. I´ve always been a gigantic Ringo Starr fan and I think when my folks would have had the money to buy me a drum kit, I probably would have decide to be a drummer just because of Ringo. So I ended up in doing the next best thing - playing the bass guitar.“

Even in the beginning of the tour that will last till September, that All Starr event scores tremendous success. The set includes 26 songs, mostly Ringo´s, from his recent release „Ringo Rama“, some Beatles tunes, and, of course, the contributing performers´ songs. Beside of playing the bass John´s share is made up of „When I See You Smile“, „Missing You“, „Isn´t It Time” and „NYC Girl”.

As already mentioned before, besides that John is busy with other projects as well. On the one hand he adds his very own zest to the Cat Stevens classical tune „Wild World“ on the Mr. Big tribute album. (Mr. Big disbanded in the beginning of 2002.) Influences & Connections is the title of that album and it comes out on August 13, 2003. Unfortunately only in Japan. By the way, Debbie Holiday, the terrific background singer that flanked John during his 2001 USA tour and on his album „Figure In a Landscape“, is also involved. A DVD documentary with interviews of the musicians is planned. On the one hand.

On the other hand there is singer/songwriter Warren Zevon and his album The Wind that´s scheduled for August 26. Among others, of the party are Billy Bob Thornton and Jackson Browne. But the key note of this album is a tragic one - Warren, who was diagnosed with mesothelioma (a form of lung cancer) in 2002 wants to bid his final good-bye to those that he liked. So John Waite gives his extraordinary voice on the background chorus of Bob Dylan´s „Knocking on Heaven´s Door“...
Again, a documentary about the recordings is planned, this time by VH1.
12 days after the release of „The Wind“ Warren Zevon passes away on September 07, 2003 in his house in
Los Angeles. He was only 56 years old...

Influences & Connections, as well as The Wind are so called „Various Artists“ albums, where a row of well-known artists contribute their highly-valued share.

The release date for his for October 21, 2003, originally scheduled CD „John Waite - John Waite“ (temporary title) is going to be postponed for the beginning of 2004. It´s a remixed re-release of his 2001 album „Figure In a Landscape“ where probably „Missing You“ and „When I See You Smile“ will be on as acoustic versions, as well as one new track.

John contracts himself out of the TBA Management.

And with John Waite´s cooperation the Shade Tree Women´s & Children´s Shelter takes place again at the
House of Blues, on December 13, 2003.

Like the past three years it will
-- hopefully --
taper off the year 2003 tranquilly...
