The upper row of teeth is without fillings, the fingernails are damn short and his legs are as thinly as I know them from numerous photos... Exactly, Ladies & Gents, John Waite live on stage and I was there! This time no vacation in Turkey would keep me away from this, and no grossly overpriced flight to the USA because after 5 years  Mr. Waite finally got his youthful butt to European climes. And in no way I didn´t want to miss that chance again! But let´s start at the scratch...

Arrival Golden Tulip Hotel

After an uneventful 5 hours drive our small group (my hubby Michi, me, and four friends of ours) arrived thirsty but relieved at Zoetermeer´s Golden Tulip Hotel. In about an hour I would meet again the Original Life Story´s co-writer Adrian Steenland, Paul Wijman and Anita Beaumont, and I was looking forward to finally meet Adrian´s partner in life Marian Lindhout, and Menno Schaap. We got on with each other right away!
After a few drinks and a copious chat we set off for the Boerderij at 6:30 pm. My folks, however, preferred a tasty dinner and some beers at some local restaurant/bar. Unfortunately they don´t care that much about John Waite so we took our leave at the Golden Tulip bar to spend our first evening in Holland separated from each other.
Go and have fun with your Johnnie...

Fan Meeting Boerderij

The first known face I caught a sight of was Wouter Kramer´s. We gotta know each other about six years ago via some John Waite website, don´t ask me which one it was... Wouter and Paul became acquainted the day before at the Arrow Rock Fesitval in Lichtenvoorde.
The group around Wouter was his daughter Lammie, who I had in mind as a retainer wearing cute teenager from the photos of John Waite´s 2001 Zoetermeer trip and that meanwhile has grown a peach of a young lady. I was also introduced to Wouter´s extremely nice wife Henrike, Jörg and Claudia from Germany, and Walter (Wolter?), a very likeable Holland guy. You may imagine our conversation as a pretty funny English-Dutch-German mix.

Beginning of the concert was supposed to be at 8:30 pm, enough time to go for a snack at the Podiumscafé, and as I turned around I bumped into a guy who´s face seemed familiar to me. "Willem Klopper?", suprised about myself that I recognzied him. The incredible Peter Hornberg (that I hoped to come across as well, alas he didn´t appear) forwarded me his email address 4 or 5 years ago and Willem couldn´t hardly remember that he sent me a photo back then. Willem, who´s much nicer in person than as a penpal, actually is a hobby photographer but when he goes on that fast he will establish his reputation very soon because his work is mind-blowing!

We gathered in front of the still closed Boerderij doors, and Paul introduced me to Joost Leonard, a Journey fan that he also gotta know at the Arrow Rock Festival the day before. I was hoping that some fans had seen my announcement in the waite4you!!! news section because I was wearing the mentioned waite4you!!! teeshirt and so I was waiting for Jesus Ruiperez from Spain, Nicky Nünning from Munich, Christian aka def from Brühl, near Cologne/Germany, or other WaiteCrazee to accost me. Marianne from Holland told me later in an email that she was standing right behind me on the balcony before the show but didn´t want to break in on a conversation I had with another fan. When she turned around again I was gone. Sh**...
Still one hour left so I took the chance to finally have a snack and discuss KANE and ANOUK with Paul. (Paul, imgaine, the next day they played ANOUK´s One Word on the radio! Do you remember that we were talking about that song on the balcony of the Podiumscafé?)

Now I need to apologize to those that I had told that the "Grote Zaal" of the Boerderij would have a capacity of 900. You were right guys, it fits only 750. Sorry, seems that I again confounded some things...

Slowly but surely exhaustion took possession of me. Had to get up early because I couldn´t get this day off, the drive to Holland, standing around in the heat, all this made me feel a bit uncomfortable. Well Mr. Waite could outfix this state of exhaustion in a jiffy...
