John Waite Live in
Zoetermeer/Holland, Boerderij
The opener: Marcel Singor Band
Not long after we went inside the mood changed, and the lights turned off. Have I been nervous?
Surprisingly not. But I was when I realized that it was not John Waite that appeared on
the stage now but
a young band from which I didnīt know that they would be there or who they were. Many other fans obviously felt the same way
because my question for the name of this quartet has been answered with collective shrugs.
The Marcel Singor Band, so their name (Thanks here to Floor Sleeking from the
Boerderij) was supposed to heat-up the audience, and they would have
succeeded in doing so when the sound would have been tuned well. The bass player opened the first song and I was
thrilled! I love driving basses and this young lady doubtless got it! However, when the singer - Marcel Singor? -
opened his mouth for the first chords listening became a real effort. He is not to blame, guys. His voice was hardly to hear,
his sophisticated solos all the more, and it also might have been an instructive lesson for
each drummerīs apprentice. Too bad, it could have been a good chance to build up their reputation outside
the Netherlands because they were good!
Their music was a clever variation of ingenious rock sounds, from subtle and guitar accented instrumental parts
right up to blues-touched pieces. Anyway, meanwhile my feet were burning, my throat was yelling for a bucket of water
and even my satisfactory third row space wouldnīt cheer me up any longer if this will take some more time.
Gimme John Waite otherwise I will leave... After an hour (?) the Marcel Singor Band left the stage.
Finally...
Interlude
Mr. Waite doesnīt visit our European latitudes that often for musical purposes. So in 2001 I thought, when John Waite
doesnīt want to come to me, then I will come to him, and I told my sister in Michigan to get me a ticket
because the powerful-voiced Brit guy was playing at the Clarkston Pine Knob
at that time, so to say round the corner from my sisterīs home. Much too late I realized that John wasnīt the showīs headliner but Journey
and since the best things come in three, Peter Frampton
was brought along, too.
Anyway, the flight was booked so letīs go to Michigan.
But - the sound quality was great! Anyway, after 30 minutes it was over and I wasnīt
really interested in Journey or
Peter Frampton although both brilliant!
So when Mr. Waite surprisingly swang his well shaped chassis over to Zoetermeer on September 27, same year, Ms. waite4you!!!
stupidly spent some (...) vacations
in Turkey. The scheduled London "Garage" gig for November 13, was cancelled, the club tour through Europe deleted and
the price of a flight ticket to the USA to be at the Pig Rib Festival in Bay City/Michigan
(August 2004),
made me come within an inch of bankruptcy. But my sister had a great time. Actually it was meant to be joke when I
told her to go to the Pig Rib to take some great shots for waite4you!!! and usually she never does what she is told.
This time she did. And I couldnīt believe it when she told me later on that the
John Waite concert was the best show she had ever been at (and sheīd been at
many...) and that Mr. Waite is such a nice and friendly guy. Uhm... what? Exactly, she didnīt blow the chance
for the Meet & Greet, just for me, of course... Itīs not that I begrudge it to her but
donīt you think that I deserve at least little run of good luck after several years of bad luck?
Waite-ing Game
And on this 10th of Saturday, the odds were in my favour, even though I was pretty broken, while I was standing in front of the
stage of the Boerderij, together with 450 (?) fans, waiting for him.
Well as I said, I was standing third row until my Dutch friend Paul Wijman nudged me forward, right
between Menno Schaap and Willem Klopper. Oups? You deserve front row.
ManyMany cyber hugs for you, guys!
As I turn around Anthony Krizan enters the stage. Extactly guys, the One and
Only Anthony Krizan!
He always fascinated me, and now that I see him in person, even more. Have I been nervous? Well, I wasnīt (not really...)
before Anthony arrived on the scene. Now his appearance made me aware: Watch out for action!
As far as I remember, Jimmy Leahey was the second that stepped in and you may apologize that I donīt
exactly remember the order
the band members turned up because now I was getting definitely nervous and the reason was
that very special redheaded guy, standing
on the right side in the dark of the stage. It was hard to believe that the moment
that I was waiting 5 years for, has finally come...
